chocolate cake with whipped cream frosting
I offered to bring dessert to a friend’s birthday party. It turned out to be the host’s birthday cake, which was a nice surprise. The cake was gone within minutes.
This was a simple, classic cake combination–chocolate with a pillowy frosting of whipped cream, and a filling of whipped cream. I coated the sides with cake crumbs, as is commonly done in black forest cakes, to hint at the chocolate cake within. This is a popular combination that appeals to just about everyone!

Can you post a recipe for this?

Hi Luv2Cook,
You can use your favorite chocolate cake recipe.
As for the whipped cream frosting, whip together:
2 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
1/3 cup sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
Make sure whipping cream is very cold before whipping. Combine all ingredients and whip for 2-3 minutes. Be careful not to overwhip (as I think I have done with this cake!).
I used crumbs that fell from the cutting of the cake layers to decorate the sides. I also sprinkled some espresso powder very lightly over the piped edges.
